For travelers, understanding visa policies is a crucial aspect of planning any journey. Therefore, let's immediately learn about updated Vietnam visa policy changes in the following article:

Overview of previous Vietnam visa policy

Vietnam has long been a destination of interest for travelers, offering a variety of visa options to cater to diverse needs. The previous visa policy encompassed a range of visa types, including tourist visas, business visas, and more. The requirements were well-defined, and the visa durations were structured to accommodate various travel plans, allowing travelers to enjoy the best of Vietnam.

Travelers planning to visit Vietnam are required to acquire a visa through a Vietnamese diplomatic outpost unless they originate from a nation on the list of visa-exempt countries or are citizens of countries eligible for electronic visas. The previous Vietnam visa policy stipulated that electronic visas would be valid for 30 days for citizens of 80 countries according to regulations.

Recent Vietnam visa policy changes

In the ever-evolving landscape of international travel, it is not uncommon for countries to revisit and update their visa policies to align with changing circumstances. Vietnam visa policy changes encompass a spectrum of modifications, specifically:

Visa-free

The Vietnam visa policy changes cover temporary stays from 15 to 45 days for citizens of 13 countries who are unilaterally exempted from visas by Vietnam. Specifically, the countries include Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Russia, Japan, Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Belarus.

Citizens of these 13 countries when entering Vietnam are allowed to stay for 45 days from the time of entry, regardless of passport type and entry purpose. There is no longer a gap between two visa-free entries, citizens from visa-exempt countries can now re-enter Vietnam immediately after exiting.

Extended according to regulations in visa policy until 2025, Citizens with passports from the UK, Spain, Germany, France, and Italy are exempted from visa for 15 days. In addition, many more countries are intended to add visa-free policies, optimising the entry process for tourists.

E-visa

The Government decided to issue electronic visas (e-visa) for citizens of all countries and territories to enter Vietnam, from August 15, 2023. The policy changes to add more entry and exit border gates using e-visa, making it more convenient for tourists. Additionally, the implementation of electronic visas (e-visas) has further streamlined the application process, promising greater convenience.

Among them, the most noticeable change is increasing the validity of the e-visa. On June 24, 2023, Vietnam’s lawmakers granted its consent to a proposal put forth by the government to extend the validity period of electronic visas for incoming travelers. Starting from August 1, 2023, the approved electronic visas will be valid for 90 days, a substantial increase from the current duration of 30 days.

Implications for Travelers

The implications of these recent visa policy changes in Vietnam are multi-faceted, impacting various aspects of the traveler's experience. For individuals planning to explore the country, these changes necessitate a deeper understanding of the new policy and its potential effects on their travel plans.

On the positive side, expanded visa-free entry options offer more flexibility and accessibility, making Vietnam an even more attractive destination for travelers from qualifying countries. The introduction of e-visas and visa-on-arrival options simplifies the application process, potentially reducing the administrative hurdles associated with traditional visa applications. The increased validity period of electronic visas helps tourists extend their visit to Vietnam longer without needing many complicated new application procedures.

However, with these Vietnam visa policy changes come challenges. The new policy may necessitate a reevaluation of travel plans for those accustomed to the previous regulations. The government has not implemented it quickly and synchronously, so many tourists have difficulty with visa policy.
